My Story
I was born in the winter of 1948 to an eighteen year-old cotton mill worker; unmarried and systematically abused by her father. I was sixteen months old when she left. No longer able to bear the constant beatings and verbal abuse, she walked out of the cotton mill where she worked, cashed her paycheck, got on a bus and disappeared. I lived in a foster home until I was seven years old. I had no memory of my mother or father, I knew of no brothers or sisters or cousins, aunts, uncles –– no one that I could call family other than a kindly old man named Clarence and his wife Ruby who were my foster parents. When I was seven years old my mom suddenly appeared to reclaim me and the next day I was on a bus with a woman I did not know.
My poor mom continued to flee her abuser long after he died, with me in tow from state to state, town to town, and sadly, man to man. When I was thirteen years old –– hope arrived. A young youth pastor took me under his wing and became the only father I ever knew. He led me to Christ, showed me what it meant to be a man, trained me, signed my marriage license and my ordination papers. I preached his funeral in 2011.
It has now been more than sixty years since that man put his arm around me and said, “Walk with me.” Though he is gone now, the legacy he left me remains today . . . and for more than sixty years I have been putting my arm around young people and inviting them to walk with me.
Issues from a Biblical Perspective
In addition to being a traveling preacher and internet host on my own live stream channel, I frequently speak at various conferences where I am asked to address cultural and political issues from a Biblical perspective. Click the image for a sample of my work in this area.
CRY MERCY is based on my book of the same title and delivered for the Colorado Christian Writers Conference in August, 2024. (Click Image)

Our focus
We delve into scripture to address pressing issues, offering insights rooted in biblical truth while engaging thoughtfully with contemporary cultural questions relating to morality, authority, and spiritual discernment.
Biblical truths
Our commitment is to uphold biblical doctrine, interpreting Scripture accurately and applying it practically to provide guidance and encouragement in a complex world through a biblical lens.
Why it matters
Understanding biblical issues is critical for the church’s witness, spiritual growth, and cultural engagement, all guided by Scripture and a commitment to truth and love.
Our Church Home
I came to Agape Christian Fellowship as a traveling evangelist/musician in 1981. It became a spiritual home for my wife, Barbara, and I and our growing family. I joined the staff in ’81 and became Senior Pastor in ’88. Agape is a church with deep roots in our local neighborhood and we have been blessed by God with rich ministry. In 2017 I retired as Senior Pastor and turn the reins over to my oldest son, Bryan. I am still an active member of church leadership, but have felt it was time to pass this ministry on to the next generation while I pursue God’s purpose for me in my “elder” years. You can watch our worship services on YouTube live on Sunday Mornings at 10:00.

The Gantt Clan
Barbara and I were married in August of 1969 and shortly after left the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina for the Green Mountains of Vermont. We have been richly blessed as our family has grown. We were blessed with six children (one in heaven now), now 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. This photo was taken at our granddaughter’s wedding, as those are the only times we can get everyone together for a family photo.
